Living in Kennesaw

Kennesaw is a suburb of Atlanta, and was originally called Big Shanty. It was not until after the American Civil War that the town was renamed after its landmark, the highest point in the Atlanta metro area – Kennesaw Mountain. The town, like most others in this area, had a great role to play in the Civil War. The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was an integral part of the Yankee plan to capture the Confederate capital of Atlanta and put an end to the war. Now the city boasts over 30,000 people and is home to several cultural centers that bring tourists in from all over the south and the entire country.

Kennesaw was hailed by Laura Bush in 2004 as one of the Preserve America Communities and it is also home to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. The Preserve American Community program recognizes unique cultural aspects throughout America and supports the efforts to keep them known and celebrated. The Southern Museum houses one of the locomotives that were involved in the Great Locomotive Chase: the General. The city is continually proud of its heritage and local businesses and private residents take pride in the town’s appearance and reputation.

According to a 2007 issue of Family Circle magazine, Kennesaw is one of the 10 greatest cities for families. The decision was made based on several factors, including access to green spaces, crime rate, education and average income. There are two elementary schools in the city: Kennesaw Elementary School and Big Shanty Intermediate School, as well as one post-secondary institution called the Kennesaw State University. There is also the First Baptist Christian School of Kennesaw, maintained by the First Baptist Church. In terms of intermediate education, parents do have more choice than they would in other areas.

The city is home to a controversial law passed in 1982 that actually requires every home to own a gun and ammunition; this was amended two years later so that convicted criminals, disabled people, and those cannot afford to purchase a gun, or who morally object to doing so, are exempt. Following the placement of the law, a huge drop in burglary statistics was recorded that, when looked at in relevance to other Atlanta suburbs, certainly shows a great difference.

If you are looking for a rental apartment in Kennesaw, you will probably have a range of choices that cost anywhere with the range of $650 to $1,500 per month. A three-bedroom apartment will likely cost you between $1,000 and $1,500 in rent each month, however if you look into shared accommodation then you will be able to cut the costs significantly. Kennesaw apartment rentals will offer you a way to establish yourself and your family in the city so that you can take advantage of the family-friendly culture that includes great schools, low crime and endless American history.
